Abstract

The goal of this study was to evaluate the comparison of cognitive behavioral therapy focused on problem-solving and hypnotherapy in the executive functions of gifted students with anxiety in the second year of high school in Khorramabad city. The research was applied in terms of purpose and quasi-experimental in terms of method with a pretest-posttest design and two experimental and one control group. Forty-five anxious gifted high school students were selected using the available sampling method in the academic year 1401 and randomly assigned to three groups of 15. Problem-solving therapy was provided to experimental groups in 10 sessions of 30-60 minutes each, and hypnotherapy in 10 sessions of 45 minutes each, while the control group received no treatment until the end of the post-test phase. The subjects were assessed using the Wechsler Intelligence Test, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, and the Stroop Scale. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance with SPSS 22 software. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the problem-solving therapy group and the control group in executive function (P < 0.05). The results also showed that hypnotherapy was effective on executive function scores compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that both treatments had a significant effect on reducing anxiety and improving executive function. However, no significant difference was observed between the effectiveness of the two treatments. Therefore, either of these two therapeutic approaches can be used, depending on the therapist's diagnosis.
