Investigating factors affecting the quality of work life of teachers: A mixed study

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the structural relation of factors effecting teachers quality of work life.
This was a combined study that using qualitative stage exploration project, first row by interviewing with teachers factors influencing quality of work life, have been identified. 12 teachers (9 men and 3 women) convenience sampling method in three educational level were working in Karaj City contributed in an interview. Interview conducted by researcher, notes and recordings and verbatim coding techniques through Strauss and Corbin (1998) were analyzed. Questionnaire of influencing factors that derived from qualitative phase was tested in quantitative stage . A sample of 760 teachers selected by multistage cluster sampling and using a questionnaire including influencing factors of teachers quality of working life and quality of work life questionnaire (Walton,1973) were completed. Data were analyzed through exploratory factor analysis, path analysis and software verification of SPSS16 and AMOS16 were used.
The qualitative data obtained through the analysis of the transcripts of the experiences and feedback of teachers in semi-structured interviews, including five individual, social, family, occupational and organizational indicators, 17 categories and 102 sub-categories. Accordingly, a questionnaire factors effecting teachers quality of working life was designed.The factors of fringe benefits, work-family balance and management support directly effected quality of work life. These variables affected quality of work life through job attitudes. Factors of professional development, spousal support and effective participation through job attitudes were effective on quality of work life. Research model was fit indices indicate compliance.
