The Effectiveness of Self-Awareness Training on Reduce Aggressive Behavior, Addict ability, and the Suicide of High School Girl Students

Abstract

Adolescence is a stage of development that many risk behaviors such as aggressive behavior, addiction, suicide may happen in it. Self-awareness skills can minimize many of these problems in adolescents. This study aims to investigate the effect of self-awareness on reducing aggressive behavior skills, addiction, and suicide among high school female students. The research method is of experimental and the design is pretest - posttest with a control group. For this purpose, 40 students from Khoshkebijar city were selected who had high scores on aggressive behaviors, addiction and suicide and were eligible for the study and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (20 subjects each group). The Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (1992), Weed et al. Addiction Questionnaire (1992) and Suicide Questionnaire of Beck et al. (1961) were conducted for both groups as pre-test. Then self-awareness skills training for 11 sessions of 60 minutes was performed for the experimental group while the control group did not receive any intervention and in the end both groups were evaluated through the same questionnaires again. Data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed by analysis of co-variance. Results showed that training can reduce aggression and self-awareness skills (p <00/01) and suicide (p< 0/01) among students. And it also showed that self-awareness training didn’t reduce addiction among students (p>0/01). Self-knowledge skill improves the students 'aggression, addictiveness, and suicide by increasing their adolescent girls' knowledge.
