The quality of Pre-Schools in Tehran

Abstract

To evaluate the conditions governing the Pre-Schools in Tehran, a sample of 40 such educational centers was randomly selected from among all Pre-Schools in different districts of Tehran. The teachers and administrators, along with parents, were interviewed and the centers' physical conditions observed using two specially constructed instruments. The analysis of the collected data show that the quality of teachers-children interaction is not of the desired quality, just as the ratio of children to teacher was inadequate in many of the observed centers. The teachers were not highly skilled in teaching pre-school children and only half of them had passed courses in this area. The methods they used were of medium quality, just as was the interactions between children, teachers, and parents. The physical conditions were sound in terms of students' health and security.
