Effectiveness of life skills education in schools in Tehran

Abstract

The present study is aimed at investigating the efficiency of life skills training in high schools of Tehran from the teachers’ point of view in the school year of 91-92. The sample of this descriptive survey included 150 female teachers in high schools of Tehran who were selected using census method. To collect the data, a researcher made questionnaire of life skills was employed which included components of self-awareness, personal-family values, decision making, coping with anxiety, making desirable relationship, and goal setting. Content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by expert views. The reliability of the questionnaire was estimated using cronbach alpha and it turned out to be 0.85. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (individual sample t-test, Friedman test). According to the results, the teachers believed that life skills training had significant effects on skills of self-awareness, personal-family values, making desirable relationship, coping with anxiety, goal setting and decision making.
