To assess the impact of teaching methods on creativity and achievement, two accessible groups of 8th graders ( a total of 90 students) were selected and one of their classes was conducted with two different teaching methods for one year. The methods used were cooperative learning and direct instruction. Pretests and post tests on creativity and achievement were taken by both groups. Analyses of variance and covariance showed a significant advantage for the cooperative method of teaching in both creativity and academic achievement. Furthermore, the cooperative method seems to be more beneficial for the low achieving students.
